Co-Founder
Sue Brown is a human rights lawyer whose practice focuses on enhancing access to justice, human rights and equality. With a Master’s Degree in Criminology and a background in political studies, as well as over a decade of human rights advocacy experience, Sue brings a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the institutions, laws and standards that make up our criminal legal system.
Sue's practice is grounded in respect for dignity and human rights. She is a fierce advocate who is committed to empowering and standing beside the people she works with to push for justice and accountability. She also has a vision for systemic change that sees a more robust system of laws and practices that would meaningfully safeguard the rights of marginalized populations to live free from systemic discrimination and would prevent violence and injustice, with a particular focus on gender-based violence.
Sue obtained her juris doctor from Peter. A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. Sue clerked for five justices of the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Since her call to the bar in 2020, Sue has served as the Director of Advocacy and Staff Lawyer at Vancouver’s NGO Justice for Girls. Sue also maintains a practice in prison law while volunteering for the Innocence Project at UBC and the national missing person's organization Please Bring Me Home.
